Survivalist planning is something that every family can make in order to be self-reliant during the times of a major disaster. It is extremely important to prepare well ahead since you will not want to struggle to stay alive during a time of crisis.
When disaster strikes all normal routines get disrupted. Food items, electricity, water and telephone lines are the first commodities to get disrupted and subsequent shortages could be the result. There could be a widespread outage of medicines too during such situations.
When people know about an impending disaster, you will see news items that flashes the images of empty grocery store shelves. This is because people would rush to buy food supplies as soon as they hear the news about the impending disaster. This is a clear sign of people not planning ahead for impending disasters.
This type of mad rush will result in a few days worth of supplies in grocery stores. There could be long electricity outages as seen during major hurricanes which make people stuck in their houses for days and days.
You will have to find a way to compensate for major electricity outages well before a disaster occurs. Can you remember what happened after hurricane Katrina? There were many citizens stranded because they didn’t have the required gas to go out of town. Non of the gas stations in town were operating during the disaster. This is food for though and a good example to highlight the advantages of survivalist planning.
Survivalists Get a Bad Reputation in the Press
During the good old days of the 1800s, people prepared during the summer for the winter ahead. Enough food was stored to compensate for the cold months ahead. Food for livestock was also stored well in advance of the winter. No sensible person thought that any of these people was weird. They were viewed as smart people trying to survive the cold winter.
Most of out impressions about other people and situations are a direct result of the movies and other dramas we watch on the television. It should be this way, but it is. You cannot change it within the near future. You may have seen those interviews conducted on Doomsday Reality TV, where the camera is held on the face of a wild-eyed individual who is talking about survivalist planning.
These TV shows will deliberately focus on something that is supposed to cause a sensation. This is because television is all about ratings. But in reality, normal people don’t drive up ratings as these wild-eyed individuals. This is the very reason that most survivalists get a bad reputation.
This is a vicious cycle, since whatever sensation reported on television will be followed exactly to the letter by the print media. Then there would be dozens of online articles bashing the survivalists.
Survivalists are people just like you and me. The only difference is that they want to be prepared for any eventuality. They are convinced that their families are not going to survive without a proper survivalist plan during the times of a crisis.
A survivalist is not an individual who believes that the world is about to end. On the other hand, they are smart people who knows that disasters could happen from time to time.
Nature has proven from time to time how unpredictable it can be. The survivalist is a person who knows the best way to respect this unpredictability is by being prepared. Natural disasters are not the only reason why you should be prepared to be self-reliant.
Look at the situation in Greece. The government decided that citizens of the country should bailout the country by donating 10% of their savings to it. The result was panic and protests for days and days.
There were mad runs on ATMs as people scrambled to pull their money out as soon as they got the news. Most of the ATMs ran out of money because of this sudden surge of withdrawals. Many people considered this move to be an illegal confiscation of private funds by the government.
The government decided to close all banks for a few days to prevent people withdrawing all the money. This is the power of a government. It can happen anywhere in the world. You don’t have to be caught off-guard, especially if you are already a parent.
A survivalist is a person who hopes that a natural, personal or government disaster doesn’t happen. But he or she will take the required steps that is needed for survival in case such a thing happens.
