Equipment Required to Survive an Emergency Situation

Emergencies happen when you least expect it, so make sure that you and your family are ready when it does.

If you want to survive, you’ll need to see to it that your basic needs are met. There must be food and water as well as shelter and warmth. These are the bare minimum that are required in order to survive for more than a few days.

You must plan long term for survival. What will you need? A tent is ideal for shelter, unless you’re building a lean to or you have a primitive building that you are utilizing as a base camp.

When using a tent consider the size you’ll require. Do you want a single person tent, or do you require a multi person tent? How about a family tent? If you have little ones, the family tent helps them to feel safer. You’ll also require something to sleep in such as a sleeping bag or some survival blankets in order to stay warm if it is cold out.

You’ll have to have food and survival food is just the thing. You’ll find these in pre packaged types and they will have a long shelf life. These are ideal to start buying now while you don’t require them. Your survival will be dependent upon how much food you have stockpiled and how available it is in the nearby surroundings. Always be prepared to use your own means to procure food in your surroundings.

Of course, you’ll require water and some containers to store it. You should also have a way to purify your water if it is from a stream or a lake as it could easily be contaminated. Keep a first aid kit handy in case you need to tend to your family.

A cook fire or heat fire will be necessary at times so bring a way to light your fire. Waterproof matches are ideal for this. Consider lighters but remember they will in time run out of butane.

Tinder will help you to get your fire going and you can use what you find in and around the campsite for this. You could also use a portable fold away cook stove for cooking. Either way, you’ll need something to cook in. Ensure you have plenty of camp style cookware to use.

Hygiene is a must so make sure you include the required toiletries for your family. A folding shovel is helpful for digging and you must have a knife or multi tool in order to cut away brush and cut fire wood.

Ensure that you have plenty of flashlights and lanterns as well as an am/fm radio. If you can get hold of a scanner that is great to have as well. You may wish you for a safety whistle as well.

Don’t forget that you’ll need to navigate your way around as well. Take a good compass and know how to use it before you need it. Always consider your family and their safety before you consider anything else. Be prepared to defend your family and keep a gun with plenty of ammunition handy at all times. Remember, danger can be on four lets or on two legs so be wary of anyone who may simply be a marauder.
